Deep Look

St. Cloud, Minnesota, is still waiting on nearly $209,000 in outstanding fees from former President Donald Trump’s campaign for services rendered during a large rally held in July. The central Minnesota city says that while Trump’s campaign did cover some costs from the rally, the balance for city-provided services has yet to be paid.

The July 27 rally, held at a hockey arena on St. Cloud State University’s campus, drew a substantial crowd. An overflow audience watched Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, speak on an outdoor screen as the former president addressed the crowd for more than 90 minutes. According to St. Cloud city officials, the event required additional services beyond routine city support, driving up expenses.

Detailed Costs and Services

The nearly $209,000 bill includes several specific charges:

  • Extra Security: St. Cloud reports $63,000 for additional police work to handle the high turnout.
  • Infrastructure Adjustments: The city allocated $62,000 to alter a construction project near the arena to accommodate the rally’s logistical needs.
  • IT Support: Approximately $2,000 was billed for IT services used during the event.

According to St. Cloud City Administrator Matt Staehling, the city’s policy is to bill for campaign events and other activities that require extra city support, such as races and festivals. However, official White House events are exempt from such charges.

While the Trump campaign paid a $35,000 fee to St. Cloud State University for the venue, the remaining balance for the city’s services is still unpaid. Attempts to reach the campaign for comment on the unpaid bill were unsuccessful.
