Met Gala 2025: ‘Tailored for You’ Theme & Exhibit Details
A Celebration of Menswear & Black Dandyism
This year’s Met Gala theme, “Tailored for You”, reflects the focus on menswear and suiting, with a special emphasis on Black style throughout history.
The accompanying exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, will explore:
- How Black men have used fashion for self-expression and identity transformation.
- The evolution of ‘dandy’ culture, from 18th-century London to today’s red carpets.
- 12 key characteristics of dandy style, including ownership, presence, distinction, and freedom.
“Our style isn’t just what we wear—it’s how we move, how we own our space, how we tell our story without saying a word.” – Sha’Carri Richardson
Among the exhibit’s highlights:
- Artist Torkwase Dyson will create monumental sculptures inspired by ‘hypershapes’.
- Artist Iké Udé will curate a section on Julius Soubise, one of the earliest Black dandies in 18th-century London.
Star-Studded Guest List & Revived Host Committee
In addition to the gala’s six main co-hosts, the Met is reviving its ‘host committee’ tradition, adding a diverse group of artists, athletes, designers, and actors.
Among them, Usher praised the theme:
“This year’s theme is not only timely, but also speaks to our rich culture that should always be widely celebrated.”
The committee also includes literary figures like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Broadway icons like Jeremy O. Harris and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.
