Deep Look: Josh Allen Wins First MVP in Tightest Race Since 2016

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has officially been crowned the 2024 AP NFL Most Valuable Player, narrowly edging Lamar Jackson in the closest MVP race since 2016.

Despite hoping to leave New Orleans with a Super Bowl trophy, Allen instead secured his first MVP award, capping off a season where he led the Bills to their fifth straight AFC East title.

“I wish we were hoisting the Lombardi,” Allen said. “But we’re going to keep working until we do.”

MVP Voting Results

Allen threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions, finishing with a 101.4 passer rating. He also rushed for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns, becoming the first player in NFL history to record five consecutive 40-touchdown seasons.

Meanwhile, Jackson posted career-best passing numbers, throwing for 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions. Despite earning First-Team All-Pro honors, Jackson fell short in the MVP voting, making 2024 the first time since 1987 that a First-Team All-Pro didn’t win MVP.
