Apple is poised to make a significant leap into artificial intelligence with the launch of the iPhone 16, set to be unveiled on Monday. This new model will integrate AI advancements that promise to enhance features like Siri and enable real-time creation of custom emojis.

The iPhone 16’s debut will take place at Apple’s Cupertino, California, headquarters in the Steve Jobs Auditorium, a nod to the co-founder who introduced the first iPhone in 2007. Since then, Apple has sold billions of iPhones, creating about $3 trillion in shareholder wealth. However, over the past decade, new iPhone models have seen only incremental improvements, contributing to a recent slowdown in sales.

The iPhone 16, however, marks a shift. It’s Apple’s first phone specifically designed with AI capabilities, setting the stage for what Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives called Apple’s role as the “gatekeeper of the consumer AI revolution.” This follows Apple’s earlier hints about its AI strategy during its developers conference in June.

While competitors like Google and Samsung have already made strides in AI with their own devices, Apple aims to differentiate its approach by labeling it “Apple Intelligence.” This technology, like its competitors, brings AI capabilities directly to the device. But Apple is promoting that many AI tasks will happen locally on the iPhone itself, thanks to specialized processors—a feature that sets it apart from rivals who rely on cloud-based AI.

With investors anticipating high demand, Apple’s stock has climbed 13% since June, raising the company’s market value by nearly $400 billion in anticipation of the iPhone 16’s AI-fueled potential.
