President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are set to visit New Orleans on Monday as the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of the deadly New Year’s attack on Bourbon Street. The White House announced that the Bidens will meet with families of the victims and community members impacted by the tragedy, offering their condolences and support.

The attack, carried out by 42-year-old Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, killed 14 people and injured dozens more before Jabbar was fatally shot by police in an exchange of gunfire. The incident shocked the nation, particularly given its connection to extremist ideology.

In a statement Thursday, Biden condemned the attack and praised the resilience of New Orleans, a city renowned for its spirit and culture. “The people of New Orleans have shown remarkable strength in the face of this tragedy,” Biden said.

Biden has also directed federal agencies to expedite the investigation into the attack, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the motives and ensuring the safety of American cities.

Following his visit to New Orleans, Biden will travel to California, where he is scheduled to attend an event in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
