Deep Look

The Game-Winning Drive

The Chiefs sealed the victory with a 4.5-minute final drive led by Mahomes. After a critical third-and-10 conversion to Xavier Worthy and a scramble for a first down, Mahomes found Travis Kelce on a pivotal play after the two-minute warning, setting up Wright’s game-winning kick.

Wright, filling in as Kansas City’s third kicker this season, nailed his fourth field goal of the game, a 31-yarder that ricocheted off the upright.

“I wasn’t too worried,” said head coach Andy Reid. “Matthew is a solid gamer.”

Dominant First Half, Chargers’ Second-Half Surge

Kansas City dominated the first half, building a 13-0 lead as the Chargers struggled offensively, punting on five straight possessions. The Chiefs’ defense shut out an opponent in the first half for the first time this season.

The Chargers, however, roared back in the second half with scoring drives on all three possessions. Gus Edwards’ 3-yard touchdown run and a Justin Herbert touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston helped Los Angeles take a 17-16 lead late in the fourth quarter.
