Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson Lead Ravens to 35-10 Win Over Bills

Deep Look:

Derrick Henry wasted no time establishing dominance, breaking free for an 87-yard touchdown run on his first carry, setting the tone for the Baltimore Ravens’ commanding 35-10 victory over the previously undefeated Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. The Ravens’ star running back finished with 199 rushing yards, as Buffalo’s defense struggled to contain him.

Henry’s massive game, combined with a three-touchdown performance from quarterback Lamar Jackson, helped Baltimore (2-2) earn their second win of the season and hand the Bills (3-1) their first loss. The Ravens put together a complete team effort, outgaining the Bills 427 yards to 236 while shutting down Buffalo’s high-powered offense.

Early Dominance

Henry’s 87-yard touchdown run, the longest in the Ravens’ 29-year history, gave Baltimore an early 7-0 lead and was a sign of what was to come. The Bills, missing key defensive players due to injuries, had no answer for Henry, who averaged 8.3 yards per carry on 24 attempts. His combination of power and speed repeatedly gashed Buffalo’s defense, which had previously looked strong through the season’s first three games.

Buffalo had a chance to respond in the second quarter when Josh Allen connected on a spectacular 52-yard throw to Khalil Shakir, setting up Ty Johnson’s 1-yard touchdown run. However, that was the only time Buffalo found the end zone.

Lamar Jackson added to Baltimore’s dominance with a pair of touchdown passes, including a 5-yard pass to Henry for his fourth career receiving touchdown. Jackson finished 13-of-18 for 156 yards, while also rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown.

“If he gets into the secondary, he’s pretty much gone, and it’s hard to catch him because he’s fast,” Jackson said of Henry. “He’s not just a powerful back.”

Ravens’ Defense Stifles Bills

While Henry and Jackson powered the offense, Baltimore’s defense shut down one of the NFL’s most dynamic quarterbacks. Josh Allen completed 16 of 29 passes for 180 yards and no touchdowns, struggling to get anything going after the first quarter. Baltimore’s defense sacked Allen twice and forced him into hurried throws, including a fumble recovered by Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton.

“They came out with urgency and whooped our butt,” Allen said after the game. “Not everything was bad… but we have a lot to learn from. I’m glad this happened early so we can correct things.”

The Ravens defense forced Buffalo into four three-and-outs in the final three quarters, and Hamilton’s recovery of Allen’s fumble led to a 54-yard drive capped by a 2-yard touchdown run from Samaje Perine that sealed the win.

“We didn’t win a Super Bowl today, but this is a big win for us,” Hamilton said, adding that the team is already focused on their next matchup. “It’s only Week 4… but I think we’re on a good path.”

Bills’ Streaks End

Buffalo’s loss ended several impressive streaks. Their NFL-record run of 43 consecutive regular-season games without a loss by six or more points came to a halt. Additionally, their streak of eight straight regular-season wins, the longest active in the league, was snapped.

The game also marked the end of Allen’s incredible connection with receiver Khalil Shakir, who had caught 30 consecutive targets without a drop before a pass breakup late in the second half.

Injury Woes

Injuries were a major factor in Buffalo’s struggles. Safety Taylor Rapp was concussed while attempting to tackle Henry in the second quarter and did not return. Khalil Shakir and center Connor McGovern also left the game briefly in the first half before returning. However, their absences disrupted Buffalo’s rhythm on both sides of the ball.

For Baltimore, left guard Andrew Vorhees missed the game due to an ankle injury, forcing Patrick Mekari to slide into the left side of the line while rookie Roger Rosengarten made his first career start at right tackle.

Looking Ahead

The Ravens, rejuvenated by their decisive win, will now look to continue their momentum as they head to Cincinnati next week. Meanwhile, the Bills will aim to regroup and correct their mistakes as they prepare to travel to Houston for their Week 5 matchup.
