Colt’s father, Colin, recounted their challenging life to authorities during an earlier investigation in 2023, which was prompted by a reported online threat to commit a school shooting. Colin revealed that the family was fractured following an eviction, which resulted in his wife leaving him and taking Colt’s two younger siblings. Colt, who lived with his father since the split, struggled with the separation and was frequently taunted at school.

On Friday, both father and son appeared in court. Colt is facing murder charges, while his father has been charged with second-degree murder for providing the AR-15 style rifle used in the attack, despite being aware of Colt’s instability. Authorities are investigating whether Colt made threats on social media, but no concrete evidence was found during the earlier probe.

Colin Gray had always tried to bond with Colt through activities like hunting, hoping to get his son away from video games. However, despite his father’s attempts to teach him responsible firearm use, tragedy struck when Colt turned the weapon on innocent victims.

As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the devastation caused by this senseless act of violence, while the relationship between Colt’s troubled upbringing and the events that unfolded at his school is scrutinized.
