Harris Raises $633M in 3rd Q, Outpacing Trump’s $283M Fundraising

Deep Look:

Kamala Harris’ campaign announced that it raised a massive $633 million in the third quarter of 2024, pushing its total fundraising to over $1 billion. The impressive haul highlights the financial strength of Harris and the Democratic National Committee as they gear up for the final weeks of the election.

September was particularly lucrative, with the Harris campaign and its affiliated groups pulling in over $359 million for the month. The campaign alone raised about $222 million during this period. However, Harris’ team also spent aggressively, pouring $270 million into a widespread advertising effort, targeting voters through various channels, including radio, TV, online platforms, and even billboards.

As of October, the Harris campaign and affiliated committees had $346 million in cash reserves, giving them a strong financial cushion as they approach the final stretch of the campaign. This leaves them in a favorable position compared to Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign, which raised $160 million in September and entered October with $283 million on hand.

Although the Harris campaign didn’t reveal its third-quarter figures ahead of filing finance records, it has consistently outpaced Trump in fundraising since Harris took over the Democratic ticket from Joe Biden in July.

Harris’ campaign highlighted the widespread support they’ve received, noting that 95% of donations in the third quarter came from contributions under $200. Overall, more than 6 million donors have contributed to Harris’ campaign, including 4.3 million first-time donors this election cycle.

Star power also played a key role in boosting Harris’ fundraising efforts. In late September, the vice president embarked on a fundraising blitz in California, raising $55 million over one weekend. A Los Angeles event featuring celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Lily Tomlin, and Stevie Wonder brought in $28 million, while a San Francisco event attended by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi raised an additional $27 million.

The week prior, Harris raised $27 million during a glitzy New York City fundraiser, solidifying her financial advantage as the election nears.
