Deep Look
PARIS — Kim Kardashian will appear in a Paris courtroom later this month to testify in a long-awaited criminal trial stemming from a shocking 2016 robbery that saw the American celebrity tied up and held at gunpoint while masked assailants stole millions of dollars in jewelry.
According to her attorney Michael Rhodes, Kardashian is fully cooperating with French authorities and will testify in person during the proceedings, which are scheduled from April 28 through May 23.
“Ms. Kardashian will be testifying in person at the upcoming French criminal trial involving the 2016 incident in which she was bound and robbed at gunpoint by a number of masked assailants,” Rhodes confirmed in a statement to The Associated Press.
Inside the 2016 Robbery
The robbery, which took place during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, drew international headlines. Kardashian was staying at a private luxury apartment when several armed individuals gained access, tied her up, and locked her in the bathroom while they ransacked the residence.
The thieves made off with an estimated $10 million in jewelry, including Kardashian’s famed 20-carat diamond engagement ring.
The Trial: Ten Defendants, High Stakes
French prosecutors have charged ten suspects with various crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, and conspiracy. The upcoming trial will offer Kardashian the opportunity to publicly confront her alleged attackers for the first time in nearly nine years.
Her appearance in court is a significant legal moment as well as a media event, given her global celebrity status.
Respect for the Legal Process
Rhodes emphasized Kardashian’s trust in the French judicial system, describing her “tremendous appreciation and admiration” for its commitment to justice.
“She wishes for the trial to proceed in an orderly fashion, in accordance with French law and with respect for all parties involved,” Rhodes said.
Kardashian has rarely spoken in detail about the robbery in recent years, though she previously described the incident as “traumatizing” and said it had a lasting impact on her views around security and privacy.
