King Mohammed VI delivered a significant speech at the 33rd Summit of the League of Arab States, held in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The speech, read by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, addressed several crucial points relevant to the Arab world.
King Mohammed VI began by expressing his gratitude to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain for the invitation and extended his appreciation to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia for their successful chairmanship of the previous summit.
The King emphasized the importance of the summit in tackling urgent issues facing the Arab nation, particularly amid the current challenging regional and global circumstances. He highlighted the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, reaffirming Morocco’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. King Mohammed VI condemned the violence and stressed the need for a two-state solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
The King also addressed the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for expedited and sustainable humanitarian aid and better protection for civilians. As Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, he reiterated his commitment to preserving the legal, historical, and cultural status of Jerusalem through the work of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency.
Regarding the internal conflicts in some Arab countries, King Mohammed VI expressed hope for stability through dialogue and peaceful initiatives rather than military solutions. He regretted the lack of progress in inter-Arab economic integration and called for a realistic vision rooted in mutual respect, good neighborliness, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
The King lamented the failure of the Arab Maghreb Union to fulfill its role in regional development and emphasized the need for free movement of people, capital, goods, and services among its member states.
Looking to the future, King Mohammed VI stressed the importance of a shared strategic vision and genuine political will to unify the Arab nation. He called for special attention to be given to human resources, particularly Arab youth, by enhancing their education and training opportunities and providing more job prospects to integrate them into political and economic life.
The King concluded by asserting that well-trained and responsible youth are the true wealth of Arab nations, essential for tackling critical issues and becoming influential players regionally and internationally.
King Mohammed VI’s speech underscored the need for unity, cooperation, and forward-thinking solutions to address the challenges facing the Arab world and achieve the legitimate aspirations of its people.
