Deep Look: LeBron, Lakers Hold Off Timberwolves for 4th Straight Win
The Los Angeles Lakers continued their strong run, securing a 111-102 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, powered by LeBron James’ dominant double-double performance.
LeBron Sets the Tone, Lakers Start Fast
James took control early, hitting a three-pointer in the second quarter to give the Lakers a 47-24 lead. Dončić, who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, set the tone with a cross-court assist to James for a layup early in the first quarter, helping the Lakers take a 9-3 advantage.
“We’re locked in, playing great basketball,” James said. “It’s all about building momentum at the right time.”
The Lakers have now won four in a row and 14 of their last 17 games, surging back into the Western Conference playoff race.
Minnesota Rallies, But Dončić Ends the Comeback
Despite falling behind by as many as 25 points, the Timberwolves battled back, cutting the deficit to 92-90 after a 13-1 fourth-quarter run.
However, Dončić delivered the dagger with 3:37 remaining, hitting a tough, off-balance three-pointer as the shot clock expired, putting the Lakers up 98-91 and ending Minnesota’s momentum.
“That was a big-time shot,” said Lakers coach Darvin Ham. “Luka just has a way of stepping up in those moments.”
Anthony Edwards’ Ejection Looms Over Timberwolves
Minnesota was without their star guard Anthony Edwards for the final 17 minutes, after he was ejected in the third quarter for arguing with officials.
Edwards picked up his 16th technical foul, which means he is likely to serve a one-game suspension per NBA rules.
“He’s got to be better,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “We’ve been talking to him about it.”
Edwards finished with 18 points before his ejection.
