Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a controversial yet prominent Republican lawmaker, has been chosen to chair the newly created Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE). The move highlights Greene’s growing influence within the GOP as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to enact his vision for a streamlined federal government.

This subcommittee will operate under the House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), and aims to work closely with Trump’s external Department of Government Efficiency.

Goals of the Subcommittee

The DOGE initiative, announced by Trump earlier this month, is designed to reduce wasteful spending, reorganize federal agencies, and cut through red tape. Greene’s panel will mirror these objectives, focusing on exposing inefficiencies and fostering transparency through public hearings.

“No topic will be off the table,” Greene promised in a statement. “We will work hand in hand with President Trump, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the entire DOGE team.”

Collaboration with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy

Musk and Ramaswamy, both known for their disruptive approaches to industry and politics, have been appointed by Trump to lead the advisory DOGE group. While the group is not an official government department, it will provide recommendations to the White House and the Office of Management and Budget.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Musk and Ramaswamy criticized the entrenched power of unelected bureaucrats, arguing that federal agencies have become bloated and inefficient. They pledged to focus on three primary reforms:

Regulatory Rescissions: Rolling back outdated or unnecessary regulations.
Administrative Reductions: Streamlining the federal workforce.
Cost Savings: Identifying and eliminating wasteful spending.

“A key step to driving greater efficiency in government is exposing the problem to the public,” a spokesperson for Ramaswamy said.

President-elect Trump introduced the DOGE initiative as part of his broader strategy to shake up Washington. Elon Musk, a vocal Trump supporter, and Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate, bring significant clout to the project.

“Too many fat cats in government,” Comer remarked during a recent Fox Business interview. “We’re getting the chopping block going.”

While the name DOGE draws parallels to the popular internet meme and cryptocurrency, the focus remains serious: overhauling federal operations to align with Trump’s vision of a leaner, more accountable government.
