Morocco held on till the end of the 90+ minutes with Spain, with the help of their fans who kept on whistling and drumming to the end. The Atlas Lions are in the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time since 1986, and they have got here by the same way they are playing today – organization and numbers at the back, and hitting teams on the break. The 2 teams head now to Extra time. The Associated Press has the story:
Morocco and Spain go to extra time at World Cup

The match between Morocco and Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup has gone to extra time with the score 0-0.
Morocco has sound defense to keep Spain at bay, but the Atlas Lions have been unable to hold possession of the ball whenever they had opportunity to put up a concerted and relentless attack in the Spanish half. With Morocco continuing to keep Spain at arm’s length, La Roja Fuera subbed out Marco Asensio to bring in Álvaro Morata, the striker who has scored the most goals for Spain in World Cup 2022 so far.
A scoreless first half saw the La Roja Fuera keeping ball possession for the most time and the Moroccans attempting to shoot at the Spaniards’ goal anyway.
It’s clear the Atlas Lions are here and committed to fighting the European heavyweights hard to advance to the quarterfinals. The Moroccans have still certainly needed their goalkeeper Bono to defend the Spanish attacks.
The result: The two teams played a scoreless match for the entire 90 minutes.
Which means now, we go into extra time.
What happens now: Because neither team could score before the end of full-time, they’ll now play two 15-minute periods of extra time. If still tied after that, then the teams will take penalty kicks to decide who moves on to the quarterfinals.
