Stephen Curry Drops 52 as Warriors Surge 134-125 over Grizzlies
Deep Look
Stephen Curry delivered a historic night Tuesday, dropping 52 points and drilling 12 three-pointers as the Golden State Warriors edged out the Memphis Grizzlies 134-125 on the road. In a game with playoff implications, Curry was unstoppable, guiding Golden State past Memphis and into fifth place in the Western Conference standings.
The win was especially sweet for Curry and the Warriors, given the last time they played in Memphis, they suffered a brutal 51-point loss and Curry failed to hit a single field goal. But that memory wasn’t lingering for the two-time MVP.
“I had actually forgotten,” Curry said after the game. “I was just kind of more focused on how big this game was for us.”
From the opening tip, Curry set the tone. He connected on his first five shots, including four from beyond the arc. By halftime, he had already racked up 32 points, hitting 8 of 10 from three-point range and 11 of 16 overall. Golden State jumped out to a lead behind his hot shooting, but Memphis fought back in the second half, keeping the game close until the final minutes.
Despite intense defensive pressure, Curry continued to score at will, finishing with 52 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists—a stat line not seen from a Warriors player since Rick Barry’s 64-point outburst in 1974.
Curry’s big night also saw him pass NBA legend Jerry West for 25th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The moment wasn’t lost on him.
“I got a little emotional about that,” Curry said. “It was special. In his memory. What he meant to our organization, the league, to the world of basketball… that’s the logo.”
His coach, Steve Kerr, was left in awe—again. “Fifty-two points with people draped all over him, all game long,” said Kerr. “I’ve been watching this for 11 years, and actually longer before I became his coach… the guy is amazing to watch.”
One second-quarter shot was so unbelievable that Kerr turned away in disbelief before it even hit the net. “Incredible,” he added.
Curry attributed his standout performance in part to a recent week-long break, taken to recover from a left pelvic contusion. Still wearing protective padding, Curry said the time off gave him a much-needed reset, both physically and mentally.
“I feel in a good rhythm,” he said. “The week off helped. The tank is pretty full.”
The victory also gave the Warriors the season series over Memphis, 3-1—effectively a two-game lead due to the head-to-head tiebreaker. That edge could be crucial as the playoff race heats up in the tightly packed Western Conference.
Despite the fireworks, longtime teammate Draymond Green was unfazed, insisting it wasn’t even Curry’s best outing.
“Hell, no. No chance,” Green said. “I’ve played with him for 15 years. I can’t quite recall the best one off the top of my head, but that ain’t it.”
With the playoffs looming, Curry’s form couldn’t come at a better time. And if Tuesday’s performance is any indication, the Warriors might be heating up just when it matters most.
