Tucker Carlson’s Hypocrisy And His Pseudo-Real Hungary

Tucker Carlson’s past Hungarian reporting and recent documentary have been embarrassingly unprofessional, because he has presented this small country in the geographic middle of the European continent to the American public in a one-sided biased manner – ignorant to even the most basic facts or realities.  Thus, regardless of his intentions, whether manipulative or corrupt, Tucker Carlson cannot have it both ways.  Claiming unquestionable objectivity as his journalistic credo, he has embarked on the road of professional self-demolition.

His extreme and mendacious claims that make up the overwhelming majority of his works about Hungary have led Tucker Carlson to declare that Viktor Orban’s unbelievably incompetent authoritarian as well as unimaginably corrupt reign is offering “a lot of lessons for the rest of us.”  On his show on January 19, 2022, titled “Here is what America should learn from Hungary,” Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto grew poetic about his guest’s intentions thus:  “I have to express my appreciation to you to show the reality about Hungary.  That is very, very rare.  We are usually faced by the lies and the fake news produced by the international liberal media.”

For the sake of an objective balance and to help Tucker Carlson to see reality, let’s portray the real Hungary as opposed to the earthly paradise he, Viktor Orban and his minions are so eager to sell for tens of millions of dollars in lobbying fees to the unsuspecting and less informed American public.

Most importantly, the authoritarian regime Viktor Orban has instituted since 2010, which he calls “illiberal democracy,” is based on hate par excellence.  Although financed almost exclusively by George Soros from its inception, his movement and then political party FIDESZ declared the Hungarian born financier the source of all the evils that have plagued Hungary from times immemorial.  Later, as his disagreements with the European Union have escalated and have turned into an open political warfare, George Soros has been joined by the bureaucracy in Brussels as the second culprit of Hungary’s enduring miseries.  Proving that hatred as a political tool for survival is bottomless, after 2018, Viktor Orban added the United States of America to his collection of anti-Hungarian culprits. Adding insult to injury, he has decided to bite the hands that have assisted Hungary to rise and has cozied up to Russia and China.

He has done it in spite of the fact that the Trump administration, brutally misled by the president’s advisors and his woefully incompetent ambassador, David Cornstein, viewed Hungary as the closest European country to the conservative ideals.  Penultimately, Viktor Orban and his party has exploited the Hungarian people’s fixation on the “shameful” Treaty of Trianon of 1920, which decimated the country territorially as well as demographically.  Thus, his hatred for all the neighboring states that contain sizable Hungarian minorities.

Finally, his disproportionate hatred of those politicians who are more cultured, educated and smarter than he is, which is the vast majority, has robbed him of the necessary clarity to see reality and disabuse him of the notion that he alone possesses the truth.  To hide his pathological limitations, namely, to cope with reality, Viktor Orban and his minions have created a false reality that, in turn, has ruined the country, which he allegedly so loves and appreciates.

The end result has been a pseudo-real Hungary, in which a small minority, through constitutionally protected fraudulent and even rigged elections, has always been able to achieve absolute majority in the Parliament, while pursuing self-serving policies that reflect nothing but Viktor Orban’s and his party’s destructive psychopathologies.  What has remained of Hungary’s admittedly weak and slowly developing democracy is Viktor Orban’s and his minions’ unbridled lust for power and money.  Therefore, authoritarianism and corruption reign supreme in the country that Tucker Carlson in his ebullient unprofessionalism designated as an example to be followed in its totality by the United States of America.

Where the ambitions of Viktor Orban and Tucker Carlson intersect is power.  To pursue this endeavor effectively, both have erected a host of double standards, or more precisely, an Orwellian cum Kafkaesque trap.  Their joint enterprise in this regard aims at establishing a false cult ideology, a rotten Utopianism, that has nothing to do with democratic conservatism.  For this reason, Tucker Carlson’s irresponsible journeys to Viktor Orban’s Hungary for mutually beneficial reinforcement is nothing but a destructive attempt at building a devastating political movement.  However, promoting conservatism by glorifying political authoritarianism, legal injustice, extreme immorality by unbridled corruption, will only lead to a vision of false perfection and to destructive social engineering.   The moral of the Tucker Carlson cum Viktor Orban saga is that journalists should remain what they originally were meant to be – the reporters of facts without political bias.  Those who disregard this basic requirement of professional decency, become manipulators of people’s biases, prejudices and vulnerabilities.  Such behavior would only result in selective hatred and the dumbing down of whole societies.  Thus, the advice of sane people to Tucker Carlson should be – stop building vicious circles of lies and respect reality.  Remember!  Fascism and Communism attempted to create useful idiots in the first half of the 20th century in Europe.  They ended up raising only a miniscule number of true believers.  The rest ended up as human garbage with slave mentality, sentenced to vegetate from the cradle to the cemetery.  Clearly, the United States of America does not need that kind of pseudo-journalism.  Real Democrats, conservatives as well as liberals alike, must reject unequivocally the psychopathy of this false manipulation once and for all.
