Deep Look

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — April 9, 2025 All suspects connected to a deadly shooting in Virginia that left three people dead and three others hospitalized have been taken into custody, local authorities confirmed early Wednesday. The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office announced via social media that the suspects are now detained and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The shooting unfolded Tuesday evening outside a townhouse complex just beyond Fredericksburg, around 65 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Multiple 911 calls triggered a swift response from law enforcement, who locked down the area and asked nearby residents to shelter in place during the investigation.

Maj. Elizabeth Scott, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, confirmed that all victims were found outside the residential units. Authorities have not released any information about the suspects, the motive behind the shooting, or the identities and conditions of the injured victims. It remains unclear how many individuals were involved in carrying out the attack.

“The shooting may have involved more than one suspect,” said Scott, adding that further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.

As the incident rocked the local community, schools took immediate precautionary steps. Both Fredericksburg City Public Schools and Spotsylvania County Public Schools announced two-hour delays for Wednesday classes.

Fredericksburg officials said the delay would provide time for staff to prepare emotionally and ensure a supportive environment for returning students.

“This delay will allow us the necessary time to prepare our buildings and staff to welcome students with the care and support they may need during this difficult time,” the school district said in a statement.

Spotsylvania County echoed those sentiments, also deploying additional sheriff’s deputies and crisis response personnel at each of the area high schools.

The sheriff’s office urged any witnesses or residents with video footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Community members can submit evidence directly through the department’s secure digital evidence portal.

As of Wednesday morning, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and law enforcement has not disclosed whether the suspects or victims knew one another.
