Warriors’ Stephen Curry Sits Out Due to Mental Fatigue/ Newslooks/ WASHINGTON/ J. Mansour/ Morning Edition/ Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry missed Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, with coach Steve Kerr citing mental and emotional fatigue rather than a physical injury. Kerr said the decision came after discussions following Curry’s struggles in recent games, where his shooting percentages have dipped. The Warriors fell to Denver on Monday, ending their winning streak, and opted to give Curry a night off to recover.

Curry’s Absence: Deep Look

A Necessary Break

Golden State opted to rest Stephen Curry for Tuesday night’s game against Milwaukee, citing mental and emotional exhaustion rather than a physical issue.

“When he’s emotionally tired, it affects his decision-making. He’s a little bit out of sorts,” Kerr said before the game.

Curry played heavy minutes recently, logging 34 or more minutes in six of the last 10 games. The decision to rest him came after Monday night’s 114-105 loss to Denver, where Curry scored just 20 points on 6-for-21 shooting.

Curry’s Shooting Struggles

Curry’s dip in efficiency suggests that fatigue might be taking a toll:

  • Last five games:
    • 37% shooting overall (32 of 86).
    • 32.2% from three-point range (19 of 59).
  • In contrast, Curry is shooting 44.6% from the field this season and 40.1% from three.

Despite Golden State’s recent success—winning 14 of their last 16 games—Curry’s form has been inconsistent, and Kerr believed a short break could help him reset.

Kerr’s Decision and Curry’s Resistance

Kerr and the coaching staff first approached Curry about resting after Monday’s loss. Initially, Curry was reluctant, wanting to continue playing. However, after further discussions, he agreed to sit out against Milwaukee.

“We’ve got lots of experience with Steph. We know him well,” Kerr said. “He just needs a night off once in a while. He’s for sure earned it.”

Golden State will now hope a brief rest allows Curry to return refreshed for the next game, especially with playoff positioning becoming crucial.
