Deep Look

The 76th annual Emmy Awards are set to air this Sunday, bringing Hollywood’s biggest TV stars together to celebrate the best in television. This year’s ceremony is happening just nine months after the delayed 75th Emmys, which were pushed to January due to Hollywood strikes. Shows like “Succession” and “The Bear” dominated the previous awards, but with “Succession” now out of the running, new dramas like “Shogun” are expected to take center stage.

The event will air live at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC and can be streamed through various live TV streaming services, including Hulu+ Live TV, YouTube TV, and FuboTV. For those without access to live TV streaming, the ceremony will be available to stream on Hulu starting Monday.

Fans eager to catch all the pre-show fashion and interviews can tune in at 6 p.m. Eastern for red carpet coverage. E! will host its “Live from E!” special, featuring hosts Laverne Cox, comedian Heather McMahan, and Keltie Knight from E! News. People magazine and Entertainment Weekly will also stream red carpet coverage on their websites and YouTube channels, starting at the same time.

The big story of this year’s Emmys is the FX series “Shogun,” which leads the pack with 25 nominations, including several wins from the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony last weekend. The show is set in feudal Japan and has already claimed 14 awards, setting the record for the most Emmy wins for a single season.

“The Bear” remains another standout this season, with 23 nominations. Jeremy Allen White, who took home the award for best actor in a comedy series during January’s ceremony, is again nominated for best actor in a comedy series, while Ayo Edebiri, last year’s best supporting actress winner, is now in the running for best lead actress in a comedy series.

Other heavyweights this year include “The Crown” with 19 nominations and “Hacks” with 16. “The Crown” sees Elizabeth Debicki nominated for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana, while Imelda Staunton is up for best actress for playing Queen Elizabeth II.

In the limited or anthology series category, Jodie Foster is considered a strong contender for best actress for her role in True Detective: Night Country, while Robert Downey Jr. is vying for his first Emmy in the best supporting actor category for his role in The Sympathizer. Downey, fresh off his Oscar win, portrays five different characters in the series.

For international viewers, the Emmys are available in dozens of countries. You can check the official Emmy website for a list of international broadcasters and their air times to see how and where to tune in from outside the U.S.

Whether you’re tuning in for the drama or comedy categories, or just there for the glitz of the red carpet, this year’s Emmy Awards promise a night filled with surprises, new winners, and perhaps a few history-making moments.
